The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a ritual of healing appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness. This sacrament "is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive the sacrament has certainly arrived" (SC 73, cf. CCC 1514)
Please do not wait until the loved one can no longer speak, think clearly or swallow. It's best to receive the graces, including confession, anointing and Holy Communion , before death.
If you have a need for a priest for holy anointing please call the parish office 997-9523.
