The purpose of the lectors is to proclaim the Sacred Scriptures at Masses and other liturgies. Lectors normally proclaim the readings from the Old Testament and the New Testament prior to the Priest or Deacon proclaiming the Gospel. The lectors also read the prayers of the faithful (when a Deacon is not present) after the homily.
Depending on the liturgical calendar, lectors are also called upon to proclaim various scripture readings on holy days and special services. Each lector should possess a love of the scriptures; a strong voice and good diction is helpful.
Lectors for the 11:15am Mass are most especially needed.
Meetings: Only as needed; usually annually.
