St. Mary's Youth Attend Edge Camp in Georgia
Eight St. Mary’s Junior High/ Edge students and chaperones traveled to Georgia the week of June 15-21 for a Catholic youth summer camp. During the week, the youth attended workshops to discuss their Catholic faith, the Eucharist and Reconciliation.
They also participated in many challenging outdoor activities. Each youth was asked to go beyond their limits in these activities including canoeing and wall climbing and challenge courses. The kids had many great experiences. Also one of the more emotional moments during the week was the youth experiencing the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist during Holy Hour. In the evening, the youth met as a group, to talk about this experience, expressing it in their own words. The students said they couldn’t explain how they felt but none had experienced this before.
All the students who attended want to go back next year and some expressed interest in being able to be a staff member at the retreat. The summer camp is part of the Junior High Edge program and high school Life Teen program. Both programs will be instituted at St. Mary’s this fall. Both Life Teen and Edge summer programs build on the programs offered at home. Registration will begin soon for the fall programs according to religious education director Diana Akroush. “Please keep us in your prayers as we continue to build on the experience for our students,” Diana said. Diana can be reached at St. Mary’s at 830-997-9523, Ext. 30 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
